This course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of criminology, including knowledge of crime, explanations for why people break the law, the workings of the criminal justice and penal systems in the UK and abroad, and criminal investigation.
You will engage in work or voluntary work with criminal justice agencies and allied fields to support their academic studies. There is also an opportunity for students to travel to the United States to visit criminal justice institutions and agencies.
A key strength of this course is the work-based learning modules, where students typically work in areas such as youth offending, victim support, crime prevention, witness support and various policing support roles, including as special constables. The work-based learning provides an invaluable opportunity for students to gain experience in a crime-related field and enhance their chances of finding relevant employment after graduation.
We use many methods to meet different learning styles and objectives. Our teaching strategy puts you at the centre of the learning and teaching process, stimulating and encouraging your interest through involvement and participation in well-structured learning activities.
