An MSc is an internationally respected qualification. In one year you will develop a strategic understanding of all aspects of tourism and events management.

This Masters course brings together a social science approach to tourism and events with the development of job-related skills and employability. You’ll complete theoretical modules ‘Tourism Concepts and Issues’ and ‘Critical Theories and Methods for Tourism’, and in the final phase of the course you’ll complete a major project personal to your interests and career aspirations.

This Masters course equips you with the skills and understanding to progress rapidly in tourism and events management. Potential employers include events management companies, conference and exhibition centres, events venues, hotel and resort management, attractions and museums, destination marketing agencies and tourism companies.

We are a member of the Institute of Hospitality's Education Membership Scheme. The Institute of Hospitality is the professional body for aspiring managers studying in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry. It has been the industry’s leading network for more than 70 years, and it promotes the highest professional standards of management and education.

Work-based modules

You can choose to undertake a work-based learning module to further enhance your employability. Sunderland has an excellent record on employability - 95.8% of our graduates are in employment or further study within six months of graduating, according to DLHE 2015/16 (based on UK postgraduate students).
