Aberystwyth University is among the top five places in the world for Student Satisfaction, according to a worldwide survey. The International Student Barometer survey is theIBS survey finds that Aberystwyth University is top for student satisfaction largest annual survey of students in the world and has gathered information from more than 600,000 students, in over 500 institutions on five continents since 2005. It found that in 2012, Aberystwyth University ranked 5th in the world on the essential attribute “good place to be”.

  • Best bursaries in the UK. Aberystwyth University is the best university in the UK for its bursaries and scholarships, according to the YouthSight Higher Expectations Report 2013. The YouthSight Higher Expectations report, surveys more than 12,000 students from over 150 universities across the UK. The survey results then rank the UK’s universities in ‘best-in-class’ order based on 81 performance-related questions.

The findings are based on over 36,000 student reviews from 56 university towns around the UK. Students were asked to rate (out of 10) their university locations across five criteria:

  • Going out (restaurants, pubs and clubs)
  • Shops (supermarkets, corner shops, book shops and video shops)
  • Transport links (buses, trams, train and underground)
  • Community (safety, student population and surroundings)

Skills Development

The University has introduced a personal development planning tool - the Academic and Personal Progress Review (APPR) - to develop your awareness of the skills you will learn at university and elsewhere. Run by your department, the APPR will give you an opportunity to look back at your progress and also to set objectives for the future. Skill development is also recognised formally by the Credits Plus scheme which accredits participation in the Year in Employment Scheme, whilst there is the opportunity to gain the City & Guilds Professional Development Award when undertaking a GO Wales Placement.
