Facts about Bournemouth University

  • Their origins can be traced to the early 20th century, with the foundation of Bournemouth Municipal College
  • Their modern history began in the early 1970s with the creation of the Bournemouth College of Technology, and the construction of new buildings on the largest farm in Talbot Village – the area now known as the Talbot Campus.
  • In 1976 the name changed again, this time to the Dorset Institute of Higher Education.
  • In 1990 it became Bournemouth Polytechnic.
  • In 1992 it finally became Bournemouth University
  • Today, they're proud to offer over 150 undergraduate degrees and almost 100 Master's degrees.
  • BU is home to over 18,000 students and almost 2,000 staff

Location - Dorset

 Dorset is a county in South West England that comprises the non-metropolitan county and the unitary authority areas of Poole and Bournemouth.

Around half of the population lives in the South East Dorset conurbation, while the rest of the county is largely rural with a low population density.
